How do I become a Volunteer Firefighter?

Rocky Mountain Fire is a combination fire department with both career firefighters and volunteer firefighters.  Our volunteers are very valuable to the department and allow us to accomplish operational tasks that would be much more difficult without their membership.

Rocky Mountain Fire accepts volunteer applications at all times.  The department compiles these applications as they come in and then periodically throughout the year, conduct a hiring process to select a new group of volunteers.  This process includes a physical agility test as well an interview.  The volunteers that are selected from this group of applicants then begin their orientation with the department.

The requirements to become a volunteer with Rocky Mountain include a Colorado State Firefighter I certification, a Colorado State Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification, and an American Heart CPR certification.  If a volunteer applicant lives within the District boundaries, and is selected to become a volunteer, the department will send the applicant to fire academy and/or EMT-Basic school.  The In-District volunteer will be required to sign a contract with the department providing two years of service to be eligible to be sent to receive these certifications.
